X85R

Borgo Panigale, 5th November 2018

Finally we’re here, we completed  the project that we  started to develop  more than 5 years ago.
We’re really sorry for the long waiting. To this project we should have put all our body, soul and heart, but until today all our forces were be focused in the Races, where you cannot wait.

We pick up where we left off.
Together with our dealer, Boulder Motor Sports, we put in track the prototype frame #1.
The motorcycle debuted at Barber Circuit, in Alabam, during the Barber Vintage Festival.
The rider was the english Tommy Bridewell, that races in BSB.  He led X85R to the first victory.
His impressions were very positive: “The bike is very good, there’s a lot of feeling for the rider. In the decisive points,  during the braking and acceleration,  gives to the rider a lot feeling.”

Now we’re ready!
We introduce you our last work of art: X85R, a chassis kit for 899/959/1199/1299 engines.
This project is a great source of our know how, that comes from our exeprience in more than 65 years in the racing scene.

From the beginning, we decided to realize a trellis frame with the consolidated parameters of the historical Twins Superbikes. The main challange consisted in build a frame that can mate with an engine not studied to allow the assembling with this kind of frame.

The main frame is built in 25CrMo4 tubes, with diameter of 28 mm. The same material was used for 999 and first MotoGp bikes. The swingarm pivot is connected to the frame through aluminium CNC machined components, to control the stiffness in the pivot area more effectively.
The frame also allows to adjust the headstock angle with the help of aluminium steering bushes.

Replacing the original frame, that works also as airbox, we had to developed a new intake system: we studied and realized a complete new airbox and air duct made in carbon fiber and optimized with CFD simulation.

Another modification was the replacement of the radial type footpegs with more traditional transverse type. This solution allows a better access to the footpegs.
The footrests are realized in aluminium alloy, available in different versions based on the rider’s requests.

The kit allows the assembling with OEM swingarm, and extended single arm and double arm swingarm.
The double arm swingarm is made from billet aluminum EN-AW 6082 and sheet aluminum EN-AW 7020.
The swingarm guarantees a reduction in the non suspended mass while maintaining and increased rigidity.

We have provided also another further innovation: beyond the possibility to mount the original fuel tank, we can modify it in a load-bearing fuel tank, increasing the capacity of 2 L.
Assembled with a light rear subframe, weighing only 700 g.

Finally, we wanted to implement the existing bodywork through the study and development of aerodynamic winglets, that are now viewed as one of indispensable technological elements in high-performance motorcycles.
The project arises from the will to innovate an important aspect considered only in MotoGp, giving a new different vision. What we realized are not only a pure performance components, they are also design accessories that modify the perception of the whole bike.
The aerodynamics was studied integrating motorsport solutions with aeronautics concepts, as sweepback or the interaction between wings and tips.
Fluid dynamics simulations have enabled to test different layout and optimize the profiles and geometries.
We obtained 6 kg of downforce at 150 km/h, and 17 kg at 250 km/h.
No compromise was applied, only the maximum dimensions. What we want show you is that a performing aerodynamics can be also also a great design accessory for the bike.
The results are the increasing of  stability and precision of the front, the improving of the acceleration by reducing the wheelie and the improving of the load on the front in the first phase of braking.

The kit is already available on order. The first kits will be delivered on next February / March 2019.

Note:
We never stop to honor our founder, Riccardo Pierobon.
We dedicate this model to him. We gave it the name X85R because means “for the 85th birthday of Riccardo”.
